The Washington West neighborhood is made up of the area just west of Washington Square, one of William Penn’s original five city squares, laid out in the late 17th century. The neighborhood is roughly bordered by Chestnut and South Streets and spans from 7th to Broad Street.
Washington West is known as one of the most historic neighborhoods in Philadelphia. Home to many historic sites including the Walnut Street Theatre, a large number of historic homes dating back to the 1700’s and some of the best restaurants Philadelphia has to offer.
Today, Washington West remains a residential-centric neighborhood populated by small businesses, and lush green space, all paying tribute to the living history of Philadelphia.
